Mission Statement

creating awareness by building a community around Close Calls by Kurvenkratzer

MISSION: To provide patients as well as their loved ones with the most helpful book on breast cancer.

CLOSE CALLS by Kurvenkratzer  Mission Statement:

“Close calls” breaks taboos and regards it as its social responsibility to do so. Doctors recommend the book in order to provide their patients and their relatives with a friend and a resource.

In the field of complementary literature on cancer, “Close calls” is the most outstanding and helpful book on the market for patients and their relatives; it manages to close a huge demand gap.

In 25 different stories, the book truthfully explains the emotional level of a breast cancer diagnosis and the subsequent treatment in a comprehensible manner. The audience can read about challenges, ordeals, fears, success, insights, crux and key moments.

Primarily, “Close calls” illustrates that there are various ways to deal with disease. Instead of pressing all possibilities into a single, correct answer, it shows a multitude of possibilities to cope with the situation. In this way the book creates awareness that, eventually, everybody can find their own, appropriate way of dealing with the disease.

Being an important companion, “Close calls” is available in waiting areas of breast care centres, in all other relevant departments of hospitals, in pharmacies, in corresponding medical practices and at distributors of chemotherapeutic substances.

“Close calls” is authentic, has humour, charm, warmth and heart. It raises questions and offers alternatives. Integrity, appreciation, advancement of resilience, attentiveness, confidence, inspiration and the wish to support others are its characteristics.

who is part of the "Close Calls Community"?

People who experience, process, fight, form, treat and defeat breast cancer and chemotherapy as well as all other therapies connected with the disease. The book’s main audience are relatives of breast cancer patients. Therefore, also people who accompany persons concerned, console, distract and encourage them, ask questions and give answers, motivate them and hug them are members.

The “close calls” community is much bigger, though. It consists of readers, supporters, sponsors, investors, those giving hope, intimates and motivators. These people not only have realized the social duty but have immediately taken social actions, expressed solidarity and were altogether helpful.

The book’s aim is to collect stories which show different points of view, criteria, framework, resources, approaches and solution concepts regarding the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The purpose of the book is to create consciousness of the topic, to inform and to make dealing with the disease easier. It manages to do so in showing different approaches, so the reader gets aware that he/she has more choices, too.

In what way does the book help?

The more often and clearer the readers can detect equality and difference of problems as well as of solutions, the likelier are they to discover their own way. This creates self-esteem, gives strength and leads to an increasing appreciation and appraisal of one’s own and of others.

As the protagonists state their situations honestly, openly and clearly, they motivate others and support the use of existing resources and potentials. The readers might experience relief because they are better informed and can find themselves in the stories. In this way, we can cause something good with the protagonists’ experiences.

In order to live up to these goals, we do not want to judge how the disease is handled. Everyone creates their own image of the reality. People usually take the best possible decision based on all available information and the current possibilities.

We want to illuminate lines of thought instead of just naming conclusions.

We know: “What Peter says about Paul, says more about Peter than Paul.”

We accept different opinions and are open to new ideas.

We dress our statements in questions which leave alternatives open.

We want to live here and now; with lust for life and passion.

We want to provide the brave people who tell us their stories with an amazing appearance by various photos and a large format.

A characteristic of the book is the artistic aspect of the photos made by various photographers. The picture language will emphasize the difference between the stories even more.

The interviews will be conducted in an appreciative, honest and respectful manner. Achievements will be complimented and acknowledged. The contact with each other will be target driven, friendly, considerate, open and casual. We want to lead the way with inspiration (“we can do it”) and with examples (“that is how it works”). Common sense, clear allocation of tasks, professionalism and practical skills are welcome.

All communication chains will be kept short.

Together with our protagonists, our supporters, our sponsors and our investors, we create an energetic balance by giving and taking, appreciation and gratitude.

We want to establish an unusual good and enduring cooperation with many doctors, nursing staff, breast cares centres, hospitals and pharmacies to get them on board for the “close calls” community.

We hope that our enthusiasm infects you, too! To loosen up people’s minds when it comes to dealing with the taboo topic of cancer.

To create the necessary awareness about the disease. To be part of the change.

Because: The choice is yours!
